  • Currently Eating...

    Campbell's Hearty Noodles

I bought a pack of these noodles because they were on sale... but they taste REALLY gross.  The noodles are dough-y, the soup is bland, and ... just... don't get it.  Some things are just better MADE IN CHINA (or Korea) and noodles are one of them.  I think I'll go make myself some real ramyun - which I don't eat too often but just because these noodles were so unsatisfying.... ;o)

P.S. This is my last week of practicum.  I'm gonna miss my kindies..... :,o(

  • My Designer Friend

Sheila is a graduating fashion/design student @ Ryerson. I went to the show to see her work.  By FAR her stuff was the best!  Her pieces were chosen to be apart of the closing sequence and they made her part so cool and dramatic. It was really exciting.  (FYI: In case you're thinking you could never wear her clothes in public... her category for this project was 'costumes'... these are not meant for everyday wear)

  • Brat Camp

I watched a season of Brat Camp on youtube.  It was about a bunch of British teenage girls whose parents sent them off to a place in Utah where there is a specialized program designed to help out-of-control teens learn about respect, confidence, and making right choices.  They live in the wilderness under strict supervision and their only way out is to graduate through the series of programs.  Some manage to get through with little kicking and screaming but others try everything to avoid going through what they have to go through.

After watching this I was thinking to myself, "What is the root of all these problems?  How did these girls become this way? and Why is it so hard to do what they're supposed to?"

Then I realized, the problems I saw in these "brats" are only a reflection of the problems we see across the entire generation of young people today.  UNGREATFULNESS.  I'm so convinced of it... and it's not just teenagers, it's the generation of people who have only read about war in textbooks, experienced famine and poverty through the World Vision infomercials, and who's greatest tragedies are having no internet or cell phone.  I am a member of this generation... and I have a problem with ungreatfulness.

I understand that we all have our pain and suffering but our pain and suffering do not deal with life or death -  like for past generations and for people who live in parts of the world with little food or resources.  Many of our parents have worked their butts off to provide a comfortable life for us but we refuse to let go of the anger and resentment for the emotional and psychological scarring that they have caused us over our lifetime.  We complain that we are "starving" only after hours of not eating when there has NEVER, EVER been a time when we did not have food, even if it was just SPAM and rice.

We sure as heck know about ALL the things we DON'T have and that's a BIG DEAL.  But for all the things we DO have, it isn't a big deal, infact, it takes miracles for us to believe that we are blessed.

If we cannot be greatful for life - for food, for home, friends, family, a car, the TTC, bus tokens, a bed, a blanet, a pillow, heat in the cold, and shade in the heat... if we can't be satisfied with life and the things we already have, how would that affect our attitude and mood?

I don't want to be a brat, and I don't want to be angry and miserable all my life.  I want to be a GREATFUL person.

  • Kindergartens

The worst thing about teaching kindergartens is seeing them pick their nose, pullout a stringly, slimey one, take a good look at it and then put in in their mouth. (barf... totally makes me gag)

The best thing about teaching kindergarten is ... everything else. :o)
